Be careful! The beachside kid pack mentality can be a shock if you are new to the area. Our kids had a difficult adjustment and were labeled by the teachers in conferences as seeming "not streetsmart." On one occasion one of my children was threatened by another student. In speaking with the Dean and the Police Officer assigned full time to the school I was told this student was all talk and that DeLaura had not had a true fight in three years. Oddly enough two weeks later that student did in fact get suspended for fighting. My children are not perfect and are dealing with maturity growth experienced in the pre-teen, early teen years but my oldest who was a well adjusted strong performing student academically and socially in the Seattle Washington area hates attending this school, does not enjoy the student environment and has withdrawn to the point of being very negative about all aspects of school. One of my children used a camera phone to video some of his experiences and I was shocked! We have spoken to the staff, my child has spoken to the staff and now we have been labeled as complainers and whiners yet the negative learning environment is allowed to prevail. We are seeking alternate options for education since it appears the status quo is easier for the staff than addressing the true issues. Think carefully and research thoroughly before moving to Satellite Beach, Florida if your children are in the Seventh or Eighth grade.

They are not worried about your learning just about how short your pants are or whether your jeans have holes

Oh my goodness, what I wouldn't give to be back here... I only went to Delaura for my 7th grade year, but I wish that I had been able to stay for 8th grade. I absolutely loved all of my teachers, especially my civics teacher, Mr. Zeuli. Even though I wasn't a perfect student while I went here, the memories that I have here are some of the greatest I have. I loved almost every minute I was here, and looking back brings back that lovely nostalgic feeling. I sincerely do wish that I could visit This school, or Satellite beach just one more time. Overall, this school is what shaped me into the person I am now, and I'm sure, if any of my teachers are reading this, you'll know who I am.I am the storyteller. For the Listener, for the viewer, endless is the night sky
