I have been overwhelmingly impressed with this lovely neighborhood school for the last 3 years. I have a 2nd grader and Kindergartener who each have their own unique style of learning and the Differentiated Instruction they receive at Monta Loma has truly helped foster their love of learning. The community is diverse and though parental-involvement could be better, it is such a warm, nurturing environment for the students/families alike. Principal Lyon is hands-on (and a former educator!) who makes an earnest effort to communicate with parents about both the successes and challenges the school faces. She's very approachable and really listens. I've loved every one of the teachers my girls have had and my girls have thrived both in the classroom and out while on the Monta Loma campus. My professional background is in private school education administration so I feel I can speak to the depth and breadth of the capabilities and talents Monta Loma teachers bring to the table. They are some of the hardest-working, committed & nurturing educators I have ever experienced and definitely well-deserving of the California Distinguished School award that was bestowed in 2014. The enrichment opportunities are endless as well - choir, band, gardening, art, physical education, chess, Lego robotics and student leadership to name a few. I look forward to many more years of involvement at Monta Loma Elementary.

I love this school! It is fun and has lots of after school classes. I am a 4th grader here and I have been to Monta Loma since Kinder.
